I've been really taken back the past two weeks over the announcements of John Piper and Francis Chan. It is really unexpected these days to hear of major leaders within the body of Christ stepping down from their roles, and not because of any scandal.

Truthfully, it is quite refreshing. It's good to see men of God willing to lay down their success, like Abraham his son Isaac. It only reinforces my willingness to submit myself under their teachings.

There is something to be said about the confidence in the Sovereignty of God within these circumstances. Both men are obviously reformed in doctrine, and I think that it is this foundation that allows them to move forward in the voice of the Lord. If they did not believe in God's Sovereignty it would be extremely difficult to lay aside "the Lord's work" and trust that it will all turn out for the better. Instead, there is this pressure to accomplish God's work on your own, that He needs you. This is far from the truth.

I've definitely been learning that with each day. God does not rely on me at all to accomplish His plans. He gives me grace to be a part of them, but they are definitely NOT dependent on Me.

There's so much peace in knowing the character of God alongside His Sovereignty. He DOES love us, He IS good, and He WILL work everything out for His glory and our joy.
