Is God Hindered By Me?

John 14:12 “I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.”
I often feel that the Lord is hindered by me because I am unresponsive to His leadings. You know, when the Holy Spirit leads you to do or say something that is out of the ordinary? This has happened to me many times, and, sadly, I have sometimes been too prideful to listen and obey.
Just a few months ago a friend blessed me with some money that was unexpected, and I was so thankful to God because I had just been worried about my finances. I drove home that day thanking God for being faithful to provide and repenting for stressing over these things.
And just as I was down the street from my home, safe, there stood a woman on the corner asking for money. There is a different person at this same spot everyday and, to be completely honest, it’s exhaustive. But this time I specifically felt the Spirit leading me to give the money I had just received to this woman. And in that instant my heart hardened and I sat at this light (for what felt likes hours) and tried to rationalize my way out of it. I ended up driving away without giving her the money, and I instantly knew that I had disobeyed the Lord.
One moment I was thanking God for providing for my every need and the next I was holding on to His gifts like they rightfully belonged to me. I am embarrassed to even admit it, but this is the constant struggle in our hearts: one moment we trust God and the next we don’t.
Yet, even still, God is not hindered! That’s what is remarkable! He still uses us weak, unstable, hypocritical people. In the midst of our failings AND victories He brings redemption. What a wonderful Father.
Belief in a Sovereign God, even in the moments that I fail, brings so much peace to my heart. "Every time Jesus does ANYTHING, He is actually doing millions of things. You may see 1 or 2, but there are thousands beyond that." John Piper
Praise God! And praise God that His kindness leads me to repentance when I do fail.
