The woman from Proverbs 31 is a great place to begin when thinking about what it means to be a godly woman. It is difficult to be this woman, which is why the proverb begins, “An excellent wife who can find? She is far more precious than jewels.” This passage talks about a wife. However, I think that all women can read this and think about the kind of woman she is and can become through Christ’s grace and power. Even women who never get married can benefit from knowing what the bible says about a woman to be adored and respected.
Verse 11 goes on to say, “The heart of her husband trusts in her, and he will have no lack of gain.” What does it mean to be a trustworthy woman in today’s society? It means that her word can be trusted, and that definitely rules out gossip, the biggest trap known to females everywhere. Is this post starting to sound stereotypical? I’m not saying that men never struggle with gossip. I’m saying that women definitely do, and this is a post to consider biblical womanhood. Not manhood. So, the next time you find yourself wanting to unload your latest frustration with a coworker, friend or family member, imagine Jesus standing in your group. Is He participating in the discussion to rip on the person? Or is he standing there saying, “Yeah, I remember the time when you did that too.” Remember the way he drew in the sand when the woman was caught in the act of adultery in John chapter 8? I am certain that he was sketching or listing the sins of the ones who wanted the woman stoned. We have all sinned. Some sin is more obvious to humans than other sin, but Jesus sees them all and He didn’t count us out when he was nailed to the cross. He died for our sin.

This week think about being a woman who others trust with their hearts. What does that look like in your life?
