"A Sincerely Shared Life" - Dr. Gary Cass

November 28, 2021 Preacher: Gary Cass Series: Acts

Topic: True Christianity, Family of God, Relationships, Community Passage: Acts 4:32–5:11

ACTS 4:32-5:11

Christianity is not a matter of my opinion or our preferences, it is “True Truth.”

According to Pew Research, 31.2 % of the world identifies as Christians.

Acts 4:32 Now the full number of those who believed were of one heart and soul, and no one said that any of the things that belonged to him was his own, but they had everything in common... 34 There was not a needy person among them, for as many as were owners of lands or houses sold them and brought the proceeds of what was sold 35 and laid it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to each as any had need.

I Cor 6:17: … he who unites himself with the Lord is one with Him in spirit.

Luke 10:4:41-42: But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, 42 but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.”

Psalm 86:11: Give me an undivided heart, that I may fear Your name.

Acts 2:46: With one accord they continued to meet daily in the temple courts and to break bread from house to house, sharing their meals with gladness and sincerity of heart…

James 4:1-2; What causes quarrels and what causes fights among you? Is it not this, that your passions are at war within you? 2 You desire and do not have, so you murder. You covet and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel.

This is absolutely not an example of socialism!

Acts 5:3: Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back for yourself part of the proceeds of the land? 4 While it remained unsold, did it not remain your own? And after it was sold, was it not at your disposal?

In the Book of Acts, Christians shared freely out of the love of God and for others.

Churchill: “Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy… Socialism’s inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.”

2 Thes 3:10: If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat.

Gal 6:5; For each will have to bear his own load.

1 Tim 5:8; But if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

Socialism is a creed of ignorance because it is advanced by purely sentimental arguments.

Socialism is the gospel of envy because it encourages you to cultivate covetousness and tells you that you are a victim.

Totalitarian elites exploit your envy to impoverish everybody else, but they always seem to end up doing quite well for themselves.

In God’s creation there will always be unequal outcomes.

Even in Christianity there’s no “equity,” but there is grace and justice.

John 17:22: The glory that you have given me I have given to them…

No one in Heaven is unhappy about these “inequities!”

Equity is not a Christian ideal- but equality is.

1 Tim 6:17: As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. 18 They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, 19 thus storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life.

Mayflower Compact: IN THE NAME OF GOD, AMEN. We, whose names are underwritten… Having undertaken for the Glory of God, and Advancement of the Christian Faith,… solemnly and mutually, in the Presence of God and one another, covenant and combine ourselves together into a civil Body Politick…

Governor Bradford: “For this community (property) was found to breed much confusion and discontent, and retard much employment that would have been to their benefit and comfort… The experience that was had in this common course and condition, tried sundry years and that amongst godly and sober men… that the taking away of property and bringing in community into a commonwealth would make them happy and flourishing; as if they were wiser than God.”

Vs.33: And with great power the apostles were giving their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them all.

Acts 5:11; And great fear came upon the whole church and upon all who heard of these things.

Their death was an unmediated judicial act of God.

I Cor 11:30; For this reason many are weak and sick among you and many sleep.

The Church exists by the sovereign will of God through the mighty acts of God.

2 Cor 4:17-18: For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, 18 as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.

This is an act of God that demonstrates the primacy of the Lord over the earth.

Acts 5:3: But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit… You have not lied to man but to God.”

“Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart…”

Satan came into the church to deceive man and he still does.

Man’s heart is so willfully self-deceptive that he convinced himself that he could fool both the church and even fool God.

In spite of whatever you may have done, the great mercy of God’s grace in Christ is for hypocrites!
